Abstract

Specific guidelines for preventive care are important especially in clinical areas in dentistry. Different approaches to preventive dental care are needed depending on individual¡¯s age and oral health status. The age groups were classified into six categories; infants to preschoolers, school children, adolescents, young adults, middle-aged adults, and older adults. Oral health statuses were divided into normal, severe plaque-deposits, caries active, periodontal problems, malocclusions, hypersensitivity, prosthodontic appliances or denture wearers, and dental implant patients. Additional strategies to preventive care were suggested for pregnant women, systemic diseases, disabled persons, psychotic problem-patients, and long-term inpatients. These suggestions for preventive guidelines of dental care according to oral health conditions across different age groups would be contributable to establishing the way of practical access for preventive dentistry in Korea.
